Building tips with The Home Chaperone
If you’re thinking about building, or already are, we are sure you have seen some of The Home Chaperone’s awesome tips! In essence, they are a Construction Coordinator, Client Liaison, Prestart Consultant, Contract Administrator, Sales Consultant, Executive Assistant, Sales Trainer, Carpenter, Site Manager, Construction Company and Building Supply Company all rolled into one (or two). But did you know? Jess actually used to work for Celebration Homes!
We sat down with Jess and Kris and got their exclusive, insider top tips and recommendations. Read on for the hottest advice usually found in The Home Chaperone’s membership
Building hacks to reduce your chore list
Jess and Kris from The Home Chaperone recommend these three tips to limit your kitchen chores.
- “Upgrade to an integrated rangehood because it’s easier to clean compared to canopy rangehoods and collects less dust” Did you know? When building a display range Celebration Home you get overhead cupboards with an integrated rangehood included!
- “Position the sink next to the dishwasher to avoid drip marks on the floor”
- “Add a bulkhead above the overhead cupboards to remove the dust collecting gap above them” 400mm deep plasterboard bulkheads are just one of the awesome standard inclusions in a display range Celebration Home. Click here to see more about our inclusions!
How to make your kitchen more functional
One of the best things about building your home is that you can customise your kitchen to suit your needs perfectly! Jess and Kris recommend these tips when adding more functionality to your kitchen
- “Hang your pendant lights a minimum of 1.7m from the floor so they don’t obstruct your line of sight”
- “Make the island bench overhang 300mm deep so you can sit on a stool without knocking your knees. This also means you could add a row of secret cupboards to the back of the island bench!”
- “Make sure there is enough clearance to walk past the fridge when the door is open.
- “Create a dedicated appliance section hidden from sight to free up space”
Home theatre hacks
To ensure your movie nights are as cosy as possible, follow Jess and Kris’ brilliant theatre tips!
- “Position the theatre room away from the hustle and bustle of the home, like at the very front of the house. This creates a physical sound barrier for the bedrooms and living areas”
- “Mount your TV so the centre of the screen is at seated eye level, which is approximately 1080mm high, to avoid getting a sore neck”
- “The cords and bracket behind a TV can look messy, so add a nib wall to conceal them”
- “Position a power point next to the couch for charging your phone”
Tips to make your façade look more expensive
To really elevate your elevation game (if you’ll pardon the pun) check out The Home Chaperone’s facade tips
- “Add a large aluminium framed glass door to make the entryway light and bright. If you’re concerned with privacy, upgrade the glass to translucent”
- “Add awning windows instead of standard sliding windows because they have less framing and are better for security too”
- “Change the porch lining to a recessed plasterboard ceiling instead of Hardiflex so there are no plastic joining strips that collect tiny cobwebs”
Jess and Kris’ kitchen non-negotiables
- “A 900mm hotplate big enough to cook a big Italian feast for the family” Lucky enough for all you cooking lovers like Jess and Kris, all Celebration Homes come standard with spacious 900mm hotplates AND 900mm Westinghouse ovens.
- “Caesarstone benchtops because they last a lifetime and look amazing!” Caesarstone benchtops are just another one of the amazing standard inclusions in a Celebration Home.
- “An awesome feature splashback – we’re undecided on the type. We prefer the look of tiles but love the cleaning practicality of glass splashback” Both tiled and glass splashbacks are standard with a Celebration Home, the only tough part is picking which one!
